My March 2012 edition of CAR Magazine arrived yesterday. As always, it is filled with lots of news, reviews, opinion pieces, features and motorsport coverage. Here are 10 things I really enjoyed:
- The drive of the Nissan Juke-R with its 3,8l V6 producing 356kW. No one gets why this car exists, but I’m glad it does. Its silly.
- The list of 125 most influential car designs: 1971 -2011 edition. There are some surprises in there, like the Lamborghini Miura over the Countach, and the McLaren F1 “Considered by many to still be the best supercar of all time” – evidently by people who have never heard of Ferrari’s F40 or 458.
- The Best Buys Feature. The main section this month. The CAR Magazine guys put their sensible trousers on and list the best cars to buy in each sector of the market from entry level hatch to SUV to performance car to grand saloon. Not many surprises when you think in terms of value, resale, badge, looks etc. A very nice, mature piece.
- The drive of the new Porsche 911. Possible one of the most anticipated new cars this year and CAR got to play with it in Dubai.
- A test of the new Ford Ranger in 2,2 TDCi 4X2 guise. So the one that will sell, rather than the top of the range edition featured in the December issue.
- Road test of the new Corsa Utility. Having been the best selling bakkie in SA for almost 4 years, this new car’s review is very important.
- The back advert for the Chevrolet Sonic Sedan with “Corvette Engineering.” Silly, but hilarious.
- “What to expect” – An overview of Formula 1 this year,
- Long Termer recaps of some good cars like the Suzuki Kizashi and Alfa Romeo Guilietta
- The review on pg 86 of the Geely LC
