The double Loop the Loop
Top Gear Festival South Africa took place in Durban this weekend. Among the usual plethora of hoonigans and petrol head craziness, there was a World Record broken – the first double loop the loop in a car.
The “Deadly 720″ was performed as a finale of the Top Gear Live show in front of a sold out crowd of 15,000+ people. While it might look almost easy from this video footage, the “double loop the loop” had never been completed successfully in a car—or custom buggy—before.
According to Top Gear, an organization which has never been known to embellish or exaggerate anything, the margin for error on the stunt was amazingly slim—
“To defy gravity not once but twice, the buggy had to enter each loop at between 24mph and 26mph (38 – 42km/h). Too little speed and the buggy would fall out at the top of the loop, with fairly grim results. Too much speed would have resulted in an extra G of force on the driver and could have caused him to black out.”
Jeremy Clarkson called the stunt “remarkable” after it was completed adding “I’m just glad no one asked me to do it.”
