A few weeks back I featured the scariest accident ever. Well, it sort of happened to me. Story after the jump.
Saturday is naturally a day for errands and such, so off I went. After spending the morning buying a new mouse, some nice jeans and 2 pairs of shoes I was on my way home. Turning off of the main road onto the arterial I found myself behind a truck. No worries, as home was only 3 km away and the road is a dual carriageway. I simply changed gear and started gaining on the truck.
Suddenly the truck swerved slightly toward me and I swung to the right so as not to get squashed. I had been pushed so far I clipped the pavement. I have no clue which bit hit, but I think the front wheel and then the back wheel clipped the pavement. So there was an immense thunk and then suddenly a series of claps. All the while I was slowing down from 60km/h or so.
I got out of the car and the picture above was the result. The right quarter had been decimated. The tire was shredded and the rim bent. I assume the tire came loose, causing the claps and the impacts destroyed the back quarter.
So now, I have submitted my statement to the police, and tomorrow need to inform the insurance company. R5 says I get stuck without a car for 2 weeks.
So if anyone wants to lend me a car, please get in touch! Matt@car-life.co.za
