So 2012 has arrived. Most people have New Years resolutions. I have New Years goals and a few things I’m looking forward to.Experiences, cars, ideas and such.
My list of shit to do/see/shag/try/achieve is:
-
Go round Kyalami
Believe it or not, I’ve never been round Kyalami. I’ve stood on the pit straight, sit in CAR’s performance fleet at the 2011 Shootout but I’ve never been around the track. A bonus would be to drive a fast car round Kyalami
-
Get SAGMJ accreditation
The key to motoring lifestyle in this country for a small publication like Car-Life, even if we are insanely awesome.
-
Hook up with a girl simply because of the car I have
Guys love to justify buying cars saying its to try get girls to sleep with them. The issue is, the girls you attract by having a flashy car aren’t the kind you really want to be with one. For the sake of science, I want to hook up with a girl while driving a Ferrari 458 or Lamborghini Aventador.
-
Go on a roadtrip
My last decent roadtrip was to Plettenberg Bay in April 2011. It hass been far too long and it’s time to hit South Africa’s magnificent road network and visit some small towns.
-
Go for a ride in a Rolls Royce
The premium car brand in the world. Stay away with your Bentleys and Machbachs. Very lovely, but Rolls Royce is still the one and only luxury car
-
Drive a performance car (Preferably a BMW M-Car) in anger round a track
I haven’t been on any racetrack in about 18 months. Every time I’ve been, I’ve also been in a warm car – Corsa OPC, Megane RS or Mercedes C32 AMG. I want to thrash a proper car around a track. My current dream is either the BMW 1M or an M3.
-
Enjoy another Date Drive
The very enjoyable night out with Aleksa courtesy of the Polo GTi went amazingly well. I think I need to test the latest hot hatches on the market by taking a girl to dinner in one. (Citroen and your DS3 Racing, I’m looking at you.)
-
Do a performance driving course
This is kind of a cheat. I’ve done a defensive driving course, but I want a day of learning how to be a hoon.
-
The Pagani Hurayai
2012 will be the year of the Huayra (hopefully). We were told that the Zonda’s replacement would be with us in late 2010… and it didn’t happen. But after a string of delays we’re looking forward to seeing Horacio’s baby with its AMG bi-turbo V12, 544kW, 1100 Nm of torque and those trick aerodynamic flaps on each corner. Fingers crossed.

The Porsche 918
We’ve also been waiting for a new flagship Porsche since the Carrera GT, and in 2012 we may get it. The 918 Spider will be the ultimate hybrid: huge engine coupled to a plug-in drivetrain. That means 540+kw, 0-100km/h in sub three seconds and only 70g/km of the naughty stuff. Get saving because they are all cost €645k and only 918 will be made.
