Renault has put the new Mégane CC on sale. So if you have a girlfriend who wants a new car, keep reading.
The last Mégane CC was, in a word, terrible. Slow, not nice to look at, not terribly well build and expensive, it never the less went down well with the FTV and Cubana females seen frequenting Cedar Square. So no problems there for target market.
The new Mégane CC comes with a 1,4TCe (Turbo Control Efficiency) engine which puts 96kW and 190Nm of torque which will propel this 1800kg monster from 0-100km/h in 10,9 seconds. That is not that amazing though. The amazing bit is Renault say it will achieve 10.0l/100km. Off a 1.4? WOW.
Ignoring all of this, it must be said, it is good looking. More conventional than the Mégane hatch but certainly not as common as a Golf look. With the top up, it looks far better than, say, a BMW 3-Series Cabriolet. They’re not quite in the same class, but I think similar people would buy them, budget dependant. What I don’t think is true is Renaults claim in the bumf that:
“From practical to stylish, or – in the case of the new Mégane CC – from outright sporty to totally seductive, there really is a Mégane to suit every need and desire.”
With that weight it certainly is not sporty and not that seductive. Fashionable and cool yes, but seductive? No.
Hopefully it will do as well for Renault with the Cedar Square crowd and then the roads around Fourways will be more interesting to look at rather than the thousands of 1-Series hatches and Hyundai Santa Fe’s.
