Most cars designs are inspired by something that already exists, or resemble something that exists. A missle, a house, a spiders web. Some cars look like animals, thought not all look like lions and sharks. Some designers got it badly wrong.
BMW Z4 – Rhino
I like the look of the 1st generation BMW Z4, but there is something about it that reminds me of a rhino. I have no idea where this comes from or what it means. The First Lady see’s it too. Maybe its the bulging kidney grill, or maybe its the flat bonnet. Either way, see one of these in grey and look for the rhino remblence.
Audi TT – Bullfrog
This was pointed out by the HR lady at work and is one of those things that once it has been seen cannot be unseen. The front grill looks like the throat pouch of a bullfrog, as well as the wheel arches which seem like it’s trying to make itself bigger than it actually is.
Morgan Aero8 – Flounder
This should be obvious, its the eyes. The flounders eyes point the other way, but the idea is there.
VW Beetle – Lady bug
Fairly obvious but still worth mentioning. I’m not sure if this was the inspiration for the design, but the lady bug has the short, rounded shape the VW Beetle just owns.
Chrysler Crossfire – Dog
Jeremy Clarkson famously said the back of the Chrysler Crossfire looks like a dog doing a no. 2, and it does. The arch exactly fits the back of the Chrysler.
